On May 22, 2016 at approximately 1700 hours officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) were working uniformed gang enforcement in the area of First St. and Juanita Ave. SEU officers attempted to contact Jonathan Espinoza (19 years) who immediately fled. Espinoza was detained after a short chase during which he had discarded a loaded semi-automatic handgun. During further investigation the handgun was found to have been reported stolen in 2011.
Espinoza was arrested for several firearm related violations.
Espinoza is associated with a known criminal street gang.
The Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit is committed to reducing gang crimes and violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members in the city. Citizens are reminded to contact the Police Department when they observe suspicious activity or are witnesses to a crime.
