37 Citations Issued During Distracted Driving Enforcement Operation
Thirty-seven drivers were cited for violating California’s hands-free cell phone law during a distracted driving enforcement operation on January 18, 2022.
During the enforcement operation from 2 p.m. a 6 p.m., twenty-five drivers were cited for texting, twelve drivers were cited for using their phone without a hands-free device and six were cited for other violations.
California has had distracted driving laws on the books since 2008. Under the hands-free cell phone law, drivers are not allowed to hold their phone or other electronic device while driving. They can only use their phone in a hands-free manner.
Si tiene una llamada telefónica importante o necesita programar direcciones, deténgase en un lugar de estacionamiento seguro. Antes de conducir, silencia tu teléfono o colócalo en un lugar donde no puedas alcanzar.
In addition to phones, other distractions include eating, putting on makeup, reaching for objects on the floor, changing clothes or using a car’s in-dash touchscreen.
