En mayo 26, 2017 en aproximadamente 1:30 AM, alert residents observed an unknown subject breaking into vehicles on the 1400 bloque de la Avenida del Sur Victoria. The Oxnard Police Department was notified of the burglary in progress and responded. On arrival, and after a brief search of the area, officers located Ulises Guerrero, un 30 residente de Oxnard años de edad. Guerrero, when contacted by officers, was bleeding from his hands; injuries that were likely caused by him cutting himself during the commission of his crimes.
Guerrero was found to be in possession of several items that were identified as belonging to the owners of the burglarized vehicles. As officers continued their investigation, they soon discovered that additional vehicles had been broken into. En total, nine vehicles, parked along the 1300 y 1400 blocks of South Victoria Avenue were broken into.
Guerrero received medical attention for his injuries and was arrested for several charges of felony vehicle burglary. He is currently on felony probation for auto theft and has a long history of criminal activity including auto theft, robo con fractura, possession of stolen property and narcotics. Guerrero is currently being held without bail at the Ventura County Main Jail.
The Oxnard Police Department is asking that any additional witnesses or victims call the Oxnard Police Department.
Vehicle burglaries and thefts are a crime of opportunity. The Oxnard Police Department urges citizens to park their vehicles in well-lit areas, lock their vehicles and to use anti-theft devices to secure their vehicles. It is also suggested that you not leave valuables in your vehicle, even if it is locked.
