On June 1, 2025, at approximately 9:02 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Ventura Road and Hill Street.
Upon arrival, officers located a Honda Accord overturned in the southbound lanes of Ventura Road. A Mitsubishi Eclipse was found on the northbound shoulder of Ventura Road, south of Hill Street. Both vehicles had major collision damage. The driver of the Honda Accord was suffering from significant injuries and was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center. The driver is listed in critical condition, and his identity is unknown. The driver of the Mitsubishi Eclipse was suffering from moderate injuries, and was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
Initial investigation revealed the Honda Accord had been traveling east on Hill Street, and made a right turn onto southbound Ventura Road. During the turn, the Honda Accord was broadsided by the Mitsubishi Eclipse, which had been traveling southbound Ventura Road. Based on witness statements and other evidence gathered from the scene, the Honda Accord made the turn against a red light, which is prohibited at that intersection. The Mitsubishi Eclipse had a green light.
Traffic Investigators responded to the collision scene and took over the investigation. Impairment by alcohol and/or drugs may have been a contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if unsafe speed contributed to this collision.
