SUBJECT: Officers Respond to Fight Call Arrest a Subject Carrying a Firearm in a School Zone

On May 23rd, at approximately 3:54 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) responded to the area of Hill St. and G St., to assist with a fight call. As the officers arrived in the area, they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that they believed to be involved in the fight.
Officers contacted the driver, Arturo Reyes, and a right front passenger. During the contact officers discovered that Reyes was unlicensed. Officers had Reyes exit the vehicle and discovered Reyes was in possession of a concealed 9-millimeter, semi-automatic handgun. Reyes was arrested for felony firearms violations including violating California’s “Gun-Free School Zone Act” (Unlawfully carrying a firearm within 1000 feet of a school). The passenger was found to have committed no violations and was released from the stop.
