Several programs are in place to help steer at youth risk away from the gang life, and have had a positive impact on hundreds of children in the community. The Police Activities League (PAL), Oxnard PRYDE, Explorer Post 9286, and the Youth Academy, are just a few of the programs to help give direction and guidance to youth in order for them to make better choices. The Oxnard Police Department also sponsors programs that help parents to recognize signs that their children are at risk or may be involved in gangs.
In order to further promote awareness in the community about the issues with gangs, the Oxnard Police Department would like to make available presentations to community, business, and school groups. The presentation would consist of an officer coming to a meeting and giving a presentation that discusses the current gang issues in the City, indicators of gang activity in a neighborhood, gang culture, and how to identify gang members through visual and verbal clues. Presentations would last about an hour and are of no cost to the group requesting it.
