INCIDENT: DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint

DETAILS:
The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit and law enforcement personnel from the Port Hueneme Police Department, Santa Paula Police Department, Camarillo Sheriff’s Department, Ventura County Community College District Police Department and the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Ventura County will be conducting a multi-location sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at undisclosed locations within the City of Oxnard between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.  This checkpoint kicks off the Avoid the 14 Ventura County DUI Task Force operations scheduled this July 4th holiday weekend.  The Thousand Oaks Police Department has planned an additional checkpoint to be held in the City of Thousand Oaks on Saturday, July 5th.     
 
Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment while checking drivers to ensure they are properly licensed.  Specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving. 
 
During the first six months of 2014, the Oxnard Police Department has investigated 10 fatal collisions resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals.  Two of those collisions involved an alcohol and/or drug impaired driver.
 
The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations to help make our community and roadways safer.  Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1.    
  
Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Oxnard Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
