Press release - Robbery and Assault with a Deadly Weapon

OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENT
On 2/7/11 at approximately 2037 hours, Oxnard Police Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Ivory Way in regards to an assault victim. When officers arrived they contacted the victim who had sustained a laceration to his head and an injury to his left eye.
According to the victim, he arrived home and when he exited his vehicle he was attacked by at least one person, with a baseball bat. The victim said that he lost consciousness and when he awoke he stumbled inside his residence and called the police. The victim was missing his keys and a large sum of money.
Investigators were able to follow up on several leads and identify the suspect as Mario Barrera (7/20/75). Investigators were able to locate Barrera at his residence and arrest him for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Evidence relating to the crime was located at Barrera’s residence. Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information is being released at this time.
The victim was transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.
