On May 18th, 2022, at approximately 6:25 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Rose Ave. and Channel Islands Blvd. Officers contacted the occupants and immediately recognized the right front passenger as Eduardo Montiel. Montiel is a documented Oxnard criminal street gang member, who has prior convictions for robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.
Officers removed Montiel from the vehicle and conducted a search pursuant to the terms of his parole and located a spent shell casing in his property. Officers followed up and conducted a parole search at Montiel’s residence and located a loaded .22 caliber Glock-style Polymer 80 semi-automatic handgun. Polymer 80 semi-automatic handguns are sold commercially as incomplete, without serial numbers, and must be further manufactured to make them into functioning firearms.
