On December 27, at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers from the Special Enforcement Unit (gang unit) conducted a traffic stop on a bicyclist on Geronimo Drive and Napoleon Avenue reference a vehicle code infraction. Upon making contact with the subject, officers found the subject to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The suspect, Oscar Vaca is on probation with searchable terms and is prohibited from possessing firearms. Vaca was found to be in possession of an unregistered handgun. Vaca is a documented criminal street gang member and one of his probation terms specifically states he is not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition, making this arrest a felony.
Vaca was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm (a felony), possessing a firearm without a serial number (a felony), and possessing a firearm in violation of probation, also a felony.
