On 1/27/17, at approximately 12:02 p.m., officers responded to a report of a carjacking near the intersection of Commercial Ave. and Oxnard Blvd. The victim told officers that she was seated in her vehicle when she was approached by the suspect. The suspect, later identified as 24 year old Casey McEvoy (photo below) opened the driver’s unlocked door and began threatening the victim. The victim attempted to flee from her vehicle but was pushed back in the driver seat by McEvoy. The victim begged for McEvoy to let her go and when McEvoy refused, the victim forcefully pushed pass McEvoy to escape. McEvoy immediately jumped in the driver’s seat and fled in the victim’s vehicle. A witness offered the victim a ride and the suspect was followed until officers located the stolen vehicle.
Dispatchers were still attempting to gather information from the victim when officers located the stolen vehicle. Due to the fact that the vehicle was taken during a reported carjacking, officers conducted a high risk traffic stop on the vehicle on Oxnard Blvd. south of Vineyard Ave. McEvoy was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Ventura County Jail.
