If you believe that you have information that might help solve one of these cold case homicides, please contact the Oxnard Police Department. The police department and the community can work together to solve many of these homicides and be the voices of the victims. Law enforcement cannot do this alone. There is NOTHING that is too minor or insignificant to share.

The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect(s) in homicide cases.

Case 16-54677 – The murder of Oscar Manuel Dominguez Jr. 

In May 2016 Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to the 900 block of Lodgewood Way regarding a stabbing victim.  Officers located Oscar Manuel Dominguez with at least one stab wound.  Emergency Services Personnel attended to Dominguez and transported Dominguez to the Ventura County Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries.  Dominguez may have been involved in a fight with several subjects in the area of Lantana St and Gonzales Rd prior to being located in the 900 block of Lodgewood way.

OPD Case 16-58944 – The murder of Noe Mosqueda Ordaz 

In June 2016 Oxnard Police Department Officers were dispatched to a call of a shooting victim in the 4800 block of Terrace Avenue.  Officers located Noe Mosqueda Ordaz inside a nearby residence. Ordaz suffered at least one gunshot wound. Ordaz was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center by ambulance. Unfortunately, Ordaz later succumbed to his injuries.

A dark colored sedan with dark rims was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed after the shots were heard.

OPD Case 16-59689 – The murder of Ramiro Pardo Delgado

In June 2016 Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to the 1700 block of S. E St regarding a shooting victim.  Officers arrived on scene and located Ramiro Pardo Delgado with at least one gunshot wound.  Emergency Services Personnel attended to Delgado and transported Delgado to the Ventura County Medical Center.  Delgado subsequently died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 16-64913 – The murder of David Izai Garcia

In June 2016 Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to the 1300 block of S. C St regarding a shooting victim.  Officers located David Izai Garcia with multiple gunshot wounds and lying in the alley.  Emergency Services Personnel attended to Garcia, however Garcia ultimately died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 16-67931 – The murder of Billy Scott Navarro

In July 2016 Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to the 300 block of W. Vineyard Ave regarding a possible trespass in one of the apartments.  Officers arrived on scene and searched the apartment.  Officers found Billy Scott Navarro deceased and lying on the floor from a gunshot wound.  Navarro was also the former resident of the apartment in which he was found.

OPD Case 16-78679 – The murder of Maurillo Primo De La Cruz

In July 2016 Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to the 800 block of Cooper Rd regarding an unresponsive subject.  Officers arrived on scene and located Maurillo Primo De La Cruz lying in the alley and appeared to have been assaulted.  Emergency Service Personnel were on scene, but unfortunately, De La Cruz died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 15-4815 – The murder of Jose Ramon Escobar

In January 2015, Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to the 5100 block of Perkins Rd regarding a shots fired call.  Officer arrived on scene and located Jose Ramon Escobar.  Escobar was seated in a vehicle and sustained at least one gunshot wound.  Detectives determined that Escobar was seated in his vehicle preparing to leave for work when he was shot.

OPD Case 15-7627 – The murder of Luis Ramirez Amaro 

In January 2015, Oxnard Police Department Officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired in the 200 block of Balsam Street.  Officers arrived on scene and were told that Luis Ramirez Amaro was transported by private vehicle to St John’s Regional Medical Center, then to the Ventura County Medical Center.  Detectives believe Amaro stood near his residence when he was confronted by an unknown suspect.  Witnesses recall hearing multiple gunshots being fired and a vehicle speeding away from the scene.  The vehicle was described as an older model, dark colored, foreign sedan.

OPD Case 15-22942 – The murder of Michael Andrade

In February 2015, Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to a shots fired call in the 100 block of Eliza Ct.  Officers arrived and located two shooting victims.  One victim was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center.  The second victim was Michael Andrade.  Andrade was located near the front door of an unrelated address.  Andrade sustained a gunshot wound and died from his injuries.  Witnesses’ recall hearing multiple shots with suspects running away from the scene.

OPD Case 15-76576 – The murder of Robert Paul Sarles

In July 2015, Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to a dead body call in the area of Lemonwood Park.  Officers arrived with the Oxnard Fire Department already on scene.  Officers saw the victim Robert Paul Sarles with at least one gunshot wound.  Sarles died as a result of his injuries.  Detectives learned Sarles was shot the night before.

OPD Case 15-88276 – The murder of Francisco Iraheta Mendez

In August 2015, Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to the 200 block of Chester Way regarding a shooting victim.  Officers arrived and located Francisco Iraheta Mendez with at least one gunshot wound.  Mendez ran back to his residence after being shot.  Emergency Services Personnel transported Mendez to the Ventura County Medical Center where Mendez ultimately died from his injuries.  Witnesses stated two subjects were seen leaving the immediate area after shots were heard.

OPD Case 15-86621 – The murder of Bryan Ramirez

In August 2015 Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to a person hit by a vehicle in the 300 block of N. G St.  Offers located 18 year old Bryan Ramirez lying on the street with significant injuries when they arrived on scene.  A gray colored sedan was seen leaving the scene after Ramirez was found on the road.  Ramirez was transported by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center.  Ramirez ultimately died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 14-18306 - The murder of Daniel Herrera Navarro

In February 2014, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 300 block of Canterbury Way.  The officers located Daniel Herrera Navarro with multiple gunshot wounds when they arrived on scene.  Navarro died as a result of his injuries.  Officers believed Navarro was riding a bicycle prior to the shooting.

OPD Case 14-32581 - The murder of Gerardo Basillio Cahuantzi

In April 2014, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1000 block of W. Gonzales Rd.  Officers arrived on scene and located Gerardo Basillio Cahuantzi in the alley.  Cahuantzi appeared to have suffered several gunshot wounds and died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 14-40217 - The murder of Ruben Leon Alfaro

In April 2014, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a possible gunshot victim in the 5300 block of Cypress Rd.  Officers arrived on scene and located 78 year old Ruben Leon Alfaro inside a vehicle.  Alfaro had a gunshot wound and died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 14-91945 - The murder of Martin Jonhathan Guillen

In September 2014, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a possible shooting victim in the 4600 block of Cloyne St.  Officers arrived on scene and located Martin Jonathan Guillen suffering from a gunshot wound and died as a result of his injuries.  Detectives learned a subject was last seen running from the immediate area after a shot was heard.

OPD Case 14-117637 – The murder of Labh Nigah

In November 2014, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a possible battery victim located at Sierra Linda Park.  The Oxnard Fire Department and Gold Coast Paramedics arrived on scene prior to Oxnard Police Officers.  Labh Nigah was located with multiple stab wounds and as a result died of his injuries.  Witnesses’ say a male subject was seen leaving the area on foot.  Two suspect composite sketches were obtained in this case.  (Refer to the Cold Case Wanted Persons tab above to view the sketches).

OPD Case 14-121914 – The murder of Alberto Ramirez

In November 2014, Officers responded to the 500 block of Cooper Rd regarding a possible stabbing victim.  Officers arrived on scene and located Alberto Ramirez with at least one stab wound.  Emergency Services Personnel attended to Ramirez for several minutes but he ultimately died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 14-128772 – The murder of Jose Luis Sainz

In December 2014, Oxnard Police Officers responded to the 4400 block of S. G St., regarding a possible shooting victim.  Officers arrived on scene and located the victim Jose Luis Sainz, lying on the street.  Sainz appeared to have sustained at least one gunshot wound.  Emergency Services Personnel attended to Sainz, but unfortunately he died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 14-129036 – The murder of Humberto Ochoa

In December 2014, Oxnard Police Department responded to the 700 block of S. Oxnard Blvd regarding a possible shooting victim.  Officer arrived on scene and located Humberto Ochoa with multiple gunshot wounds.  Ochoa was immediately transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent surgery.  Unfortunately, Ochoa succumbed to his injuries and died.  There was an additional victim in the immediate area who was shot in the lower leg.

OPD Case 14-129613 – The murder of David Lara

In December 2014, Oxnard Police Department Officers responded to the 1200    block of Felicia Ct regarding a shots fired and subject down call for service.  Officers arrived on scene and located David Lara lying on the street with at least one gunshot wound.  Emergency Services Personnel attended to Lara for several minutes but Lara died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 13-4982- The murder of Pamela Sue Silva

In March 2013, Oxnard Police officers responded to a female subject laying on the ground in the west alley of the 1300 block of South E Street.  Officers found that the victim, Pamela Sue Silva, was deceased.  Detectives learned that Silva was a transient in the area and she frequented the downtown area of Oxnard.  Detectives learned that Silva had been seen in the area of the 1200 block of Saviers Road in the hours prior to her murder.  An autopsy revealed that Silva died as a result of being strangled.

OPD Case 13-65827 - The murder of Jose Gutierrez Dominguez

In November 2013, Oxnard Police officers responded to a call of multiple shooting victims in the 900 block of South H Street.  Officers located three victims, one of which was Jose Gutierrez Dominguez.  Dominguez succumbed to his injuries and died.  Dominguez and the other victims had been cooking in the front yard of a residence just prior to the shooting.  Witnesses saw two males running from the area of the shooting immediately after the gunfire.

OPD Case 13-67708 - The murder of Ricardo Silva


In November 2013, Ricardo Silva was shot and killed in the area of McKinley Avenue and Colonia Road.   Two males were seen running from the area where Silva was shot.

OPD Case 13-18092 - The murder of Javier Garcia Reyes

In September 2013, Javier "Pepe" Reyes was shot and killed in the area of Napoleon Avenue and Alexander Street. Reyes had just celebrated his 18th birthday earlier that evening with his family by going out to dinner.  After dinner, he and a friend were walking on the street, when they were confronted by a group in individuals. A shooting occurred and Reyes was killed.

OPD Case 12-19587- The murder of  Carlos Alberto Gonzalez

In September 2011,  Oxnard Police officers responded to the area of the alley of 300 block of Cuesta del Mar for a shots fired call.  Officers located two deceased males, who were seated on a couch.  They also located a third victim, who also suffered a gunshot wound.  The two males were identified as Carlos Gonzalez and Steven Carrillo.  Detectives learned that the three victims had been seated on the couch in the alley drinking alcohol when two suspects approached them.  The suspects confronted the three victims and opened fire on them.  The suspects fled on foot.

In September 2011,  Oxnard Police officers responded to the area of the alley of 300 block of Cuesta del Mar for a shots fired call.  Officers located two deceased males, who were seated on a couch.  They also located a third victim, who also suffered a gunshot wound.  The two males were identified as Carlos Gonzalez and Steven Carrillo.  Detectives learned that the three victims had been seated on the couch in the alley drinking alcohol when two suspects approached them.  The suspects confronted the three victims and opened fire on them.  The suspects fled on foot.

OPD Case 12-17087 - The murder of Ira Joe McLaughlin IV

In August 2012, 25-year old Ira Joseph McLaughlin was found on South "J" Street north of Hemlock Street. A witness saw four individuals get out of a car and began to fight with McLaughlin. One of the four individuals fired one shot, which struck McLaughlin's upper body killing him. McLaughlin was a Army veteran, who served overseas in combat areas.  He was loved by friends and family.

OPD Case 11-11299- The murder of  Gustavo Rodriguez

In June 2011,  Oxnard Police officers responded to the alley near the area of Hueneme Rd. and South J St. regarding a shooting victim.  They located 18-year old Gustavo Rodriguez laying in the alley suffering from a gunshot wound.  Rodriguez was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.  Witnesses heard 4-5 gunshots and saw a early 2000's gold colored sedan leave the area at a high rate of speed.

OPD  Case 10-18542 - The murder of Rudy Rivas

On August 29, 2010, Rudy was murdered in broad daylight. He, along with two people, decided to go to Mr. Kwik's Liquor store to make a purchase. Once there, Rudy was the only person to exit the car and go into the store. A car with a female driver and three males drove up. The males exited their car and pulled Rudys friend out of the car and began to assault him. When Rudy saw what was happening, he came out of the store to help his friend. One of the suspects then pulled out a gun and shot Rudy.  

Rudy was born in Ventura and raised in Oxnard.  He was the youngest of four children, and the only boy. Rudy brought so much happiness to his family. Rudy was good with his hands. His passion was fixing up cars. At times, he had several old cars waiting to be restored. He had a big part in the raising of his nieces and nephews. He wasn't selfish and was often described as a humble person by his friends. Rudy's long term plans were to open up a body shop and employ his friends.

OPD Case 10-10187- The murder of  Salvador Rivera

In May 2010,  Oxnard Police officers responded to the area of Yucca St. and Cloyne St. regarding a shooting victim.  They located 18-year old Salvador Rivera laying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound.  Ambulance personnel responded and pronounced him deceased.  Detectives learned that just prior to the shooting, Rivera was inside a vehicle with several other persons.  This vehicle passed a group of males, who were standing in front of a residence.  Words were exchanged between the two groups, which lead to a fight.  During the fight, a shooting occurred and Rivera was hit.

OPD Case 10-05578- The murder of  David Cameron Gonzales

In March 2010, 32-year old David Gonzales and some friends had been drinking at the Old Dublin bar, located in the 1900 block of South Victoria Ave.  After leaving the bar they attended a house party in the area of Bottlebrush Pl. and South K St.  While in the front of the house, the group was confronted by another group of males.  A fist fight began.  David and several of his friends were stabbed.  The suspects fled the area.  David was transported to a nearby Oxnard Fire Station in search of medical treatment.  David died at the fire station.

OPD Case 10-02207 - The murder of Vicente Arzate 

In January 2010, 16-year old Vicente Arzate’s body was found inside of a residence by officers responding to a call in the 700 block of Rialto Street. Vicente had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. While on scene, the officers discovered that two other victims had also been shot, but they were transported to the hospital.  They survived their wounds. The three victims had been standing in front of the entryway at a house party when several gunshots were fired through the door. Vicente was a resident of Camarillo.

OPD Case 09-16616- The murder of  Benjamin Rojelio

In July 2009, 48-year old Benjamin Rojelio was shot and killed while at the Lucky Cantina bar, located in the 1000 block of South Ventura Rd.  Prior to the shooting, Rojelio had accidentally bumped into someone inside the bar.  This bump caused an altercation, which spilled out into the bar's parking lot.  The shooting occurred in the parking lot.  Witnesses described the suspect as fleeing the area on foot.

OPD Case 09-15230- The murder of  Melissa Rodriguez

In July 2009, Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Ironbark Court regarding a traffic collision.  When officers arrived, they found a single vehicle collision into a tree.  They located 19-year old Melissa Rodriguez in the driver's seat, and Rodriguez's cousin seated in the passenger seat.  As officers treated Rodriguez they saw that she had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.   Rodriguez died as a result of her injury.  Detectives learned that Rodriguez and her boyfriend had been involved in a physical fight moments before she drove away.  It appeared as of someone shot at Rodriguez's vehicle while she drove down the street.

OPD Case 09-01003 - The murder of Michael Carrillo

 In January 2009, Oxnard police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 400 block of Gloria Court. When they arrived, they discovered the body of 18 year old Michael Carrillo lying in a parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPD Case 08-29704 - The murder of Jovany Cahuantzi

In November 2008, 19-year old Jovany Cahuantzi heard whistling outside of his residence on Borrego Way so he went outside to see where the sound was coming from. Witnesses inside of the house heard several gunshots and rushed outside to find Cahuantzi suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.        

 Jovany Cahuantzi was nice and well-liked by family members and friends. He previously worked as a contractor for a satellite television company.

OPD Case 08-27058- The murder of  Victor Navarro

In October 2008, An Oxnard Police officer was in the area of the the St. Mary's Dr. when he heard gunshots.  The officer conducted a search of the area to find the source of the gunshots.  The officer located two gunshot victims in the 100 block of Stanford Ave.   33-year old Victor Navarro was found to have multiple gunshot wounds and was unresponsive.  The second victim had been shot one time, but was conscious.  Navarro was transported to the hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.  The second victim was also treated for his wound, and he survived.  Detectives leaned that both men had been seated inside a large pick-up truck at the time of the shooting.  The surviving victim was not forthcoming with detectives about the shooting.  Victor left behind a 6-year old daughter, who he loved very much.

OPD Case 08-23775- The murder of Rosa Ruiz

In September 2008, 17-year old Luis Ruiz and his mother, 51-year old Rosa Ruiz, were at a residence in the 1800 block of Alexander St. pre-planning a family party.  The two of them left the residence and were standing in the front yard of the home.  Family members reported hearing  1-2 gunshots.  They found both Luis and Rosa shot.  Both were transported to the hospital, where they both died.  Detectives conducted an investigation in to this case and arrested 20-year old David Landeros as being one of the suspects involved in this double murder.  Landeros was later convicted of being involved in these murders and was sentenced to prison.  Landeros was not the actual shooter in this case.  The shooter in this case is still outstanding.

OPD Case 08-17976 - The murder of David Ruelas 

In July 2008, Oxnard Police Department officers responded to the 900 block of South "H" Street, where they found 29-year old David Ruelas lying in the roadway.  Ruelas had been stabbed multiple times.  Ruelas was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.  A second subject was also stabbed in this incident, but his wounds were not life threatening.

OPD Case 08-11439- The murder of  Christobal Flores

In May 2008, Oxnard Police officers responded to a shooting victim in the 2400 block of El Dorado Ave.  Officers found the victim, 21-year old Christobal Flores, laying on the ground near an apartment building.  Flores was found to have been shot, and was pronounced deceased.  Detectives learned that Flores and another person were standing in the alley to the rear of the apartment buildings, when a white colored vehicle drove by.  This vehicle was occupied by several individuals.  There was a confrontation between Flores and the occupants of the vehicle.  Gunshots were heard in the area, and Flores was found shot by his friend.

OPD Case 08-06825- The murder of  Armando Castro

In March 2008, Oxnard Police officers responded to the 1000 block of Lodgewood Way regarding an assault victim.  Officers located 39-year old Armando Castro laying in the driveway of a home.  Castro was transported to the hospital, where he later died. Detectives learned that there had been a fight involving several subjects at the Circle K market, located near Lodgewood Way.  Castro may have been involved in this fight.

OPD Case 07-28721- The murder of  Barry Franklin 

In November 2007, Oxnard firefighters and ambulance personnel responded to the 2100 block of Curren St. regarding a fall victim.  The medical personnel located 48-year old Franklin Barry and learn that he had been stabbed.  Barry was transported to the hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 07-20227 - The murder of Christian Garcia

In August 2007, Oxnard Police Department officers responded to a call of a shooting victim in the 2000 block of Napoleon Avenue. Upon the officers arrival they located the victim, identified as 18 year old Christian Garcia of Oxnard.   Garcia had suffered a gunshot wound. Garcia was transported to Saint Johns Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives were told that Garcia was standing alone in the front yard of his residence when he was shot. 

Christian Garcia was the youngest of four children -and that's exactly how he lived his life, a child at heart. He was a huge fan of music, he loved to perform as DJ at friend's and family's get-togethers. Thoughtful and caring, he would do just about anything for anybody; no favor was too big or small. Christian was the father to 2 month old Kristle Garcia and his wedding date was set for September 12th, 2007.

OPD Case 07-20042- The murder of  Jose Nuncaz Reyes

In August 2007, Oxnard Police officers responded to a fight in the parking lot of a bar in the 600 block of South Oxnard Blvd.  The officers located a large group of individuals, one of which was Jose Reyes.  Reyes had been stabbed and was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.  Reyes died 9 days later as a result of complications due to the stabbing.

OPD Case 07-08947- The murder of  Jose Erik Esqueda

In April 2007, Jose Esqueda, his wife, and his 3-year old child, were inside their residence, located in the 2400 block of East Pleasant Valley Rd., when they heard a banging noise on this side of their house.  A few seconds later, they heard a noise and Jose opened the door to investigate.  Upon opening the door, Jose was shot, and he staggered back into the house.  Jose was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

OPD Case 06-28434- The murder of  Romulo Sanchez

In October 2006, Oxnard Police officers responded to a stabbing victim in the 300 block of East First St.  Officers found the victim, Romulo Sanchez, in the area.  Sanchez had been stabbed in the chest, so he was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.  Investigators believed that Sanchez may have been robbed prior to being stabbed.

OPD Case 06-20739- The murder of  Gloria Altamirano

In July 2006, Oxnard Police officers responded to a shots fired call in the 700 block of Cuesta del Mar.  Officers located  located 22-year old Gloria Altamirano near the front of an apartment building.  She had been shot and killed.  Investigators determined that just prior to the shooting, a group of males had been standing in front of this same apartment building.  An individual approached this group of males and confronted them.   This individual produced a firearm and pointed it at the group.  The group fled as the suspect fired his weapon at them.  It appears as if a stray bullet struck Gloria, killing her.  Gloria was not the intended target, but an innocent person who lived in the area.

OPD Case 06-16761- The murder of  Adrian Pulido

In June 2006, Oxnard Police officers responded to a home, located in the 1300 block of South E St. regarding subjects at a party armed with firearms.  The reporting party also said that a gunshot had been heard.   When officers arrived, they saw a large group of people running away from the residence.  Officers located 19-year old Adrian Pulido, laying on the driveway of the home.  Pulido had suffered a gunshot wound.  Pulido was transported to the hospital, where he later died.  The party had been held in remembrance of two prior murder victims.

OPD Case 06-16756- The murder of  Elizabeth Ayala

In June 2006, Oxnard Police officer were called to the 700 block of W. Channel Islands Blvd. in response to deceased female in an apartment.  There was no obvious signs of injury to the deceased, Elizabeth Ayala.  During autopsy, internal injuries were found, consistent with violence.  Detectives began an investigation.  Based on the investigation, it is likely that Elizabeth knew her killer.

OPD Case 06-06785 - The murder of  Carlos Prado

In March 2006, 19-year old Carlos Andres Prado was found murdered on the sidewalk of the 3400 block of Jackson Street. There were two bicycles found in the roadway a few feet from Prado's body. Carlos was a resident of Ventura County for more than 17 years. He attended Richard Bard Elementary School, E.O. Green Junior High School and Hueneme High School. Carlos had plans to join the Marines.  For his family, his murder has been a constant reminder of his life cut short too soon and of all the dreams he never had a chance to realize.  To this day his family continues constant communication with detectives in hopes that justice will soon be served.  Carlos was beloved by his family and friends, his death has left an empty space in the hearts of all who love him, an empty space that can never be filled.

OPD Case 05-34376- The murder of  Ralph Delacerda

In December 2005, Officers located 55-year old Ralph Delacerda laying in the roadway in the area of the 900 block of West Ninth St.  Delacerda had been shot and killed.  Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots in the area prior to Officers finding Delacerda.  Prior to being killed, Delacerda had been at a family member's residence in the 1100 block of West Cedar St.

OPD Case 05-33606- The murder of  Elizabeth Renteria

In December 2005, Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to the Los Compadres Bar, located in the 3700 block of Saviers Rd., regarding a call of shots fired.  Officers located 22-year old Elizabeth Renteria seated in the front seat of a parked Ford Mustang.  Renteria had suffered a gunshot wound to the face.  Renteria was transported to the hospital, where she later died.   Detectives learned that Renteria and her boyfriend had been seated in the Mustang, when a older model 1980's style van drove towards them.  A male passenger in the van confronted the couple in the Mustang, and then fired shots at them from a handgun.  Witnesses described the shooter as a male, but the driver of the van was a female.

OPD Case 05-30199- The murder of  Gerardo Gomez

In November 2005, 53-year old Gerardo Gomez, was inside the Sunrise Donut shop, in the 1200 block of S. Oxnard Blvd.  He had just purchased his morning donut and coffee.  Two masked gunmen entered the store and committed a robbery.  Gomez tried to calm the situation.  One of the robbers shot and killed Gomez.  

Gerardo Gomez was a hard working, family man.  He left behind a wonderful family that morns his death.  The Gomez family maintains contact with investigating detectives and hopes to one day have closure on this case.

OPD Case 05-27704 - The murder of Simon Aristigue

In October 2005, 30 year old resident Simon Aristegui was shot in the 700 block of West Robert Avenue.  Nearby officers heard the gunshots and immediately responded to the area to investigate.  The officers located Aristegui, who was conscious.  Aristegui was transported to the hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.  Witnesses reported that Arstegui was involved in a verbal argument with a known subject which took place in the S. alley of the 700 block of W. Robert Ave just prior to the shooting.

OPD Case 05-00002- The murder of  Ronnie Perez

In January 2005, 45-year old Ronnie Perez was walking on the sidewalk of South “G” street with his wife. It was about a half hour after midnight and they were on their way to a neighbor’s house to tell them Happy New Year. While they were walking, a car approached the couple and shot Perez in the head. Perez died at the hospital.

OPD Case 04-37183 - The murder of Adrian Burton 

In December 2004, Oxnard Police officers responded to the area of the 600 block of West Channel Islands Blvd. in response to a call of a shooting victim.  The officers located 33-year old Adrian Burton laying face down on the ground.  The officers provided CPR to Adrian, and he was transported to the hospital.  Burton died at the hospital.  Detectives learned that Burton had been standing on the parking area when a silver or grey colored compact vehicle approached him.  It is believed that the shooter was inside of this vehicle.

OPD Case 04-33715 - The murder of Gonzalo Romero 

In November 2004, Oxnard Police officers responded to the 200 block of North McKinley Ave. regarding a call of gunshots in the area.  Officers found 28-year old Gonzalo Romero suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Romero was transported to the hospital, where he later died.  The preliminary investigation showed that Romero had been walking on the sidewalk when he was confronted by several assailants.  A fight began, and Gonzalo was shot.

OPD Case 04-31722 - The murder of Jose Ascension Perez 

In November 2004,  Oxnard Police officers responded to Hueneme High School in response to a stabbing victim.  Officers located 18-year old Jose Perez and transported him to the hospital, were he died.  This stabbing took place on the campus of the high school.

OPD Case 04-24044 - The murder of Roland Espinoza 

In September 2004, 20-year old Roland Espinoza's body was located laying against a garage in the east alley 600 block of South E St.  Espinoza had a gunshot wound.  Neighbors reported hearing a single gunshot several hours earlier.  Roland had been dropped off in this area a short time before the gunshot was heard.

OPD Case 04-27112 - The murder of Oscar Ponce 

In September 2004, Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to a shooting victim in the east alley of the 3000 block of South G St.  Officers located a shooting victim, 33-year old Oscar Ponce.  Prior to the shooting, Oscar had been seen in the company of a female, who resided in that neighborhood.

In July 2004, 22-year old Juan Martinez was shot and killed in the trailer park, located at 250 East Pleasant Valley Rd.  Martinez had just returned to the trailer park from a family party in Camarillo.

OPD Case 04-15915 - The murder of Anthony Palomares

In May 2004, officers received a call of shots fired in the 400 block of West Hemlock Street. When they arrived on scene, they noticed through a window that a male was lying on a sofa inside the house. He was unresponsive to their contact efforts and appeared to have a gunshot wound. Once officers forced entry into the house, 45-year old Anthony Palomares was transported to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center where he later passed away. He was home alone at the time of the shooting. 

 Anthony grew up in Ventura County and enjoyed listening to music. He loved spending time with his daughter and is missed by many family members and friends.

OPD Case 04-15154 - The murder of Jose Rivera

On May 22, 2004, officers responded to the 200 block of East Fifth Street and found 27-year old Jose Rivera lying face down on the sidewalk. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. His shirt had been torn open and a set of keys sat near his body. People at Jose’s home revealed to officers that Jose had left to get something to eat, and that he intended to return home directly after.

OPD Case 04-07174 - The murder of Daniel Hernandez 

In March 2004, 28-year old Daniel Hernandez was shot multiple times as he exited a liquor store in a strip mall near the intersection of Victoria Ave. and Hemlock St.   Prior to his murder, Hernandez had been at Champs Bar, which was also located in the same strip mall.  The suspect(s) may be associated with a dark green Toyota 4-Runner SUV.

OPD Case 04-06518 - The murder of Jeffrey Haerterich

In March 2004, Oxnard Police officers responded to the 700 block of Driffill Blvd. regarding a shots fired call.  An additional call was received of a shooting victim located in the alleyway to the rear of a nearby mobile home park.  Officers located 34-year old Jeffrey Haerterich in the alley.  Haerterich was pronounced deceased.  Haerterich was a transient that had been staying in this area.

OPD Case 04-05991 - The murder of Fernando Mosqueda

 In February 2004, 17-year old Fernando Mosqueda drove towards the intersection of San Marino St. and E Guava St. Near this area, he parked his car and got out to talk to some of his friends. A little while later, a car with three girls pulled up and after they parked, Mosqueda and one of his friends got in the backseat to talk with them. While they were talking, a car pulled up and the males inside asked Mosqueda and his friends where they were from. Upon receiving an answer, the males opened fire on the girls’ car and Mosqueda was shot and killed. The girls drove Mosqueda to the hospital, but he had already died.

Mosqueda went to Channel Islands High School and was born in Ventura.

OPD Case 04-04017 - The murder of Oscar Cortez  

In February 2004, officers responded to a call a residence on North M Street regarding a male that had been shot. Detectives learned that the victim, Oscar Cortez had been shot in the head.  Information was received regarding the victim being in the company of a male named, "Peachy"  at the time he was shot. Police have been unable to contact Peachy to get a statement about what happened while he and Oscar were in the room together, but heard that there may have been other people in the back room with them.

OPD Case 04-02582 - The murder of Joshua Chavez 

In January 2004, 20-year old Joshua Chavez and his younger brother Jacob were on their way home from a friend’s house. Jacob was walking behind Joshua, who was riding a bicycle. As they approached the intersection of F Street and Roderick Avenue, a vehicle with tinted windows pulled up to Joshua.  The driver spoke to Joshua and shot at him.  Jacob saw Joshua attempt to evade the gunman as he heard several more gunshots being fired.  The car drove off.  Joshua passed away in his brother’s arms.

OPD Case 03-34850 - The murder of Ricardo Veronica 

In December 2003, officers were called to the 1400 block of East Second Street and found 21-year old Ricardo Veronica lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the hip. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. A witness saw a red vehicle leave eastbound from the area.

OPD Case 03-32061- The murder of Jorge Martinez 

In November 2003, officers responded to the 400 block of North Roosevelt Avenue and found  36-year old Jorge Martinez lying on the sidewalk. It was determined that he died of blunt force trauma to the head. Jorge and his wife had been attending a party for a friend’s daughter at a house on that block. He left before his wife, in the company of three males and two females.  A witness saw the three males kicking Jorge on the ground while the two females watched. Jorge left behind two stepchildren. He was a butcher and a former bodybuilder who once competed for Mr. Mexico.

 OPD Case 03-31556 - The murder of Alberto Montecinos Lopez

In November 2003, police were called to a report of shots fired on N McKinley Av. Upon arrival, police discovered the body of 27-year old Alberto Lopez lying on the driveway of a residence. He was pronounced dead on the scene, having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Lopez lived in one of three buildings with other field workers on the back of the property where he was found.

OPD Case 03-27646 - The Murder of Froylan Martinez

In October 2003, 16-year old Froylan Martinez was shot and killed while attending a friend’s birthday party in the 1200 block of Felicia Court. He had just returned to the party after purchasing sodas and chips for the guests. A vehicle approached the party-goers and several suspects exited the vehicle. One of the suspects drew a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at the party-goers. The party-goers fled as the suspect fired the handgun. Martinez fell to the ground and died. Martinez had no criminal history and was not a gang member.

In September 2003, a surprise birthday party was being held in the 2100 block of Walden Avenue. A group of four men entered the backyard where the party was being held. One of the suspects was armed and approached 20-year old Augustine Medina.  An conversation occurred and the man immediately shot him. He then continued to fire at other party-goers in the immediate area. Augustine died at the scene. 19-year old Gilbert Hernandez was also shot and transported to the hospital, where he later passed away. Five other victims were wounded and taken to the hospital, but were later released. 

At the time of his death, Augustine was attending Ventura College and enjoyed being active and spending time with his family. Augustine was loved by many family members and friends.

OPD Case 03-13899 - The murder of David Anthony Zuniga

 In May 2003, 36- year old David Anthony Zuniga was shot and killed while attending a small party in the 4900 block of Terrace Avenue over Memorial Day weekend. The party guests heard shots fired and ran into the backyard to find that David and Ralph Ismael Delacerda were both shot. David died on the scene. David was a resident of Oxnard and had lived in Ventura County his whole life.

OPD Case 03-08637 - The murder of Daniel Omar Leon 

In April 2003, 22-year old Daniel Leon Omar was visiting his girlfriend in the 1000 block of Hull Place. The two were standing outside talking when a subject, described as a Hispanic male in his teens, walked up to them and asked Daniel where he was from. The subject then produced a handgun and fired a shot at the victim before running from the area. Daniel was transported to the hospital where he passed away two days later.

At the time of his death, Daniel had a 4-year old daughter, and he had recently relocated from Oxnard to Santa Paula. He was a Ventura County resident for his whole life. Daniel was loved by many family members and friends.

OPD Case 03-05673 - The murder of Jesse Cardenas

On March 2, 2003, Oxnard officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 600 block of East Second Street.  Upon their arrival, officers located the body of Jesse Cardenas.  Witnesses heard yelling while the shots were being fired.  The suspect(s) fled in a vehicle.

OPD Case 03-01954 - The murder of Ralph Lopez 

In January 2003, 34-year old Ralph Lopez was found seated in a parked in a light blue Buick Skylark in the 400 block of North Grant Ave.  The car window was shattered and Lopez was bleeding.  Lopez was declared deceased when officers arrived.  Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots the evening prior.

OPD Case 02-29403 - The murder of  Steven Miinster

In November 2002, 15-year old Steven Miinster, a developmentally disabled teen, was shot and killed within feet of the front door to his residence, located in the 200 block of Bryce Canyon Avenue. A preliminary investigation revealed that Miinster was inside of his home shortly before his murder. He reportedly received a telephone call from an unknown female that asked him to meet her outside. Miinster left his home and walked a few feet around the corner where he was shot. Miinster was not associated with any gangs and had attended Hueneme High School.

OPD Case 02-23088 - The murder of Emilio Fernandez

 In August 2002, 28-year old Emilio Fernandez arrived at an apartment complex with his brother-in-law on the 5200 block of South “J” Street when a man approached them. After the man demanded to know where Emilio was from, he pulled out a gun and shot and killed Emilio. Emilio lived in Saticoy and was at the apartment complex to visit his sister and his two children. At the time of his death, Emilio was survived by his two children and a girlfriend.

OPD Case 02-13861 - The murder of Javier Marquez

In May 2002, 16-year old Javier Marquez was driving in a vehicle with some passengers in the south end of Oxnard.  Marquez became involved in a road rage incident with another vehicle.  This resulted in a vehicle collision, but both vehicles continued driving.  The vehicles separated.  A short time later Marquez was the passenger in a different vehicle.  They happened to run into the occupants from the second vehicle from the earlier road rage incident.  Marquez exited his vehicle and a male exited the second vehicle.  The two men fought in the street.  Marquez was stabbed during the fight.  Marquez was transported to the hospital, but died from his injuries.

OPD Case 02-13055 - The murder of Lucille Debra Jefferson

In May 2002, 22-year old Lucille Jefferson was driving out of the Circle K parking lot along Rose Avenue when she got into an argument with the occupants of another vehicle that was blocking the driveway. After yelling at them to move their car, Jefferson followed the vehicle to a stop light on Rose Avenue and Santa Lucia Avenue. At the stop light, both Lucille and the occupants of the other vehicle got out of their cars and continued their argument. While they were arguing, Jefferson got stabbed in the chest. Jefferson then got back in her car and drove herself to the nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

 At the time of her death, Jefferson was staying with relatives in Oxnard after recently moving from Van Nuys with her son.

OPD Case 02-08054 - The murder of Isaac Hughes

In March 2002, Isaac Hughes, a mentally challenged 61-year old man, was shot and killed through his bedroom window in the early hours of the morning. Relatives living with him in the house on the 1800 block of Ferrara Way woke up to the sound of glass breaking and found that a fire had started in the kitchen as a result of a “Molotov Cocktail” that had been thrown through the window. In effort to get everyone out of the house, one of Isaac’s relatives went to his bedroom and that’s when they noticed that he was unresponsive and had been shot.

 Isaac was a man with a sweet disposition that loved to listen to gospel music and enjoyed attending Church service every Sunday.

OPD Case 01-30823 - The murder of Saul Rojas

In December 2001,  24-year old Saul Rojas and his wife had an argument because Saul was intoxicated.  Saul left the residence and went to Goodie Liquor store, located in the 1200 block of Saviers Rd.  While in the parking lot, Rojas was shot by an unknown subject.  Saul staggered into the liquor store.  Oxnard Police officers arrived and rendered aid to Saul.  Rojas was transported to teh hospital, but died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 01-27974 - The murder of Ralph Jr. McLaughlin

 In November 2001, witnesses saw a white pickup truck pull up in front of an apartment complex on South “C” Street and heard the passengers arguing. They witnessed a male passenger get pushed out of the vehicle and saw the car drive off. The man that was forced out of the car was later identified as 38-year old Ralph McLaughlin. When police arrived at the scene, they found McLaughlin suffering from a stab wound to the chest and heard him say that “Rudy done me wrong.” McLaughlin was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

OPD Case 01-19619 - The murder of Israel Mendez

 In August 2001, 20-year old Israel Mendez was shot  while riding his bike home from his work at Quizno’s. He was shot on South “G” Street in front of an apartment complex that was close to the one that he lived.  At the time he lived with mother and younger brother, Juan.  Israel was a resident of Oxnard and had been stabbed the year prior to his death.

OPD Case 00-27684 - The murder of Raymond Caballero

In November 2000, police officers responded to a call of a suspected hit and run after a car crashed into a fence and hit a parked car, slamming it into the side of a house. When officers arrived on East 1st Street though, they found the body of 22-year old Raymond Caballero in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to his chest. It was determined that Caballero was shot through the closed driver’s side window.

OPD Case 00-27666 - The murder of Ricardo Rangel

In November 2000, 57-year old Ricardo Rangel was found stabbed in the area of Sixth St. and Oxnard Blvd.  Rangel was conscious and told officers about the stabbing, but did not know who stabbed him.  Rangel was taken to the hospital and he succumbed to his wounds a few days later.

OPD Case 00-26667 - The murder of Felipe Ramirez

In November 2000, 17-year old Felipe Ramirez was standing on the sidewalk along Cedar Court, talking with his brother and friend when four individuals approached them. These individuals took the chain that Ramirez was wearing and then shot him in the chest before running away down the street.

OPD Case 00-22825 - The murder of James Jefferson Boyce 

In October 2000, 42-year old James Boyce was walking to his work at the Ventura County Rescue Mission thrift store early in the morning when he was shot multiple times. Boyce lived at the Rescue Mission and was taking a shortcut along the railroad tracks through the Oxnard Transportation Center along East 4th Street when he was shot. When police officers arrived at the scene, Boyce was already dead.

 James Boyce was born in Omaha, Nebraska and attended high school there. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a cook. Others at the mission said that Boyce had a passion for God and his faith and wanted to become a minister someday. He was loved by many there and enjoyed teaching others how to read.

OPD Case 99-27634 - The murder of Gilberto Gutierrez Aviles

In October 1999, a patrol officer was investigating what he initially thought may be a car accident due to finding a car fender on the side of the road when he found the body of 36-year old Gilberto Aviles. The officer found the body lying face down next to the wall of a water treatment plant near the US 101 North on-ramp along E. Ventura Blvd. and Del Norte Blvd. Aviles suffered from multiple gunshots to the chest. Robbery did not seem to be a motive in Aviles’s murder. 

 Aviles lived in Tustin, CA and was a father to three children ages 14, 12, and 10 at the time of his death.

OPD Case 99-15594 - The murder of Jessie Rivas

In July 1999,  28-year old Jessie Rivas was found by Oxnard Police officers in the 100 block of South C St.  Rivas had suffered multiple stab wounds to his body.  Rivas was transported to the hospital, where he died.

OPD Case 99-12326 - The murder of Raymundo Sanchez

In June 1999,  22-year old Raymundo Sanchez and his 19-year old friend were standing in front of a residence in the 5400 block of Cypress Rd.  A group of subjects approached the pair and confronted them.  Sanchez and his friend fled and were chased by the group of suspects.  The suspect caught up to the pair and beat them with objects.  Sanchez was transported to the hospital, where he died from head trauma.  The 19-year old survived.

OPD Case 98-19695 - The murder of Enrique Hernandez

In August 1998,  20-year old Enrique Hernandez and a group of his friends became involved in a fight with another group of males.  This fight occurred near the area of Cuesta del Mar and Roland Way.  During the fight Hernandez sustained a stab wound, which later killed him.  Both groups fled the area, leaving Hernandez at the scene.

OPD Case 98-15415 - The murder of Dondre Baker

In June 1998,  21-year old Dondre Baker and his girlfriend were seated in a vehicle, which was parked in the 400 block of Helena Way.  Two Hispanic males approached the couple and confronted Baker.  One of the males shot Baker.  Both males ran away.  Baker died as a result of the shooting.

OPD Case 98-10287 - The murder of Richard Hernandez

In April 1998,  30-year old Richard Hernandez was shot and killed in a parking lot in the 2500 block of Saviers Rd.  Witnesses saw one suspect point a gun at Richard, shoot, than run away.  A second suspect watched the shooting and fled with the shooter.

OPD Case 98-07350 - The murder of Ruben Ambriz

In March 1998, officers received calls of gunshots fired near Bryce Canyon Avenue and Saviers Road. While searching the area, officers received an additional call about a gunshot victim at St. John’s Hospital. Once at the hospital, officers found 19-year old Ruben Ambriz in critical condition.  He later passed away. The cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head. The shooting occurred while Ruben was driving down the street in the 100 block of Bryce Canyon Avenue.

OPD Case 98-07231 - The murder of Lauro Gonzales

In March 1998, Oxnard Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Cooper Rd. regarding a dead body.  Officers arrived at a home and entered.  In a bedroom the officers located the victim, 39-year old Lauro Gonzalez.  Gonzalez had been shot and was pronounced deceased.

OPD Case 98-02822 - The murder of Genaro Jimenez

In February 1998, 17-year old Genaro Jimenez was riding his bike along  Driskill Street when two vehicles approached him. One person from each of the vehicles got out and came up to Jimenez, starting a fight. During the fight, the two suspects stabbed Jimenez, returned to their cars and fled. Jimenez was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

 Genaro Jimenez was from Oxnard and his friends described him as someone who worked hard in school and liked to make people laugh.

OPD Case 97-27890 - The murder of Felipe Flores

In November 1997,  Oxnard Police Officers were dispatched to a fight at the Texaco gas station, located in the 3000 block of Santa Clara Ave.  Officers located victim, Felipe Flores.  Flores had suffered a stab wound, so he was transported to the hospital, where he later died.  It was later determined that Flores died as a result of a stab wound.  Witnesses described a large fight occurring, and that the involved parties had been associated with two different cars.

OPD Case 97-16942 - The murder of Hector Rivera

In July 1997, Hector Rivera and his friend were confronted by several subjects in the 600 block of La Canada Ave.  The subjects were driving a red car.  Both Rivera and his friend were struck by gunfire.  Rivera died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 96-27845 - The murder of Gabriel Cortez 

In December 1996, 24-year old Gabriel Cortez, 26-year Frank Cortez, and both of their girlfriends went to El Taco De Mexico on E. 5th St. While waiting for their food, Gabriel and Frank got into an altercation with three males. This led to the shooting of both Gabriel and Frank, leaving Gabriel dead and Frank wounded.

OPD Case 96-05170 - The murder of Daniel Garcia Lara

In March 1996, 18-year old Daniel Garcia Lara was shot and killed at the Elks Lodge in the 800 block of South A St.  Lara had just left a quinceanera when he was killed.  Investigators learned that the shooter was accompanied by two other individuals.   Lara was not a gang member, but investigators at the time believed that the suspects were involved in gangs. 

At the time of the murder, Oxnard Police Detective Sergeant Cliff Troy said, "I believe in my heart this is a solvable case.  We need the right people to come forward and talk to us." 

Lara had just graduated from Hueneme High School, and was the first person in his family to do so.  He was enrolled at Ventura College and was studying Criminology.  His ultimate goal was to become a police officer.  Lara's friends described him as a hard-working college student, who volunteered and trained as a amateur boxer.  He also had a part-time job working for the City of Port Hueneme.

OPD Case 96-02189 - The murder of Luis Magana

In January 1996, 15-year old Luis Magana  and a friend were in the area of Sierra Linda Park, when they were confronted by a male subject.  Magana and his friend left the area in their vehicle.  The suspect followed them.  While stopped at a stop sign, the suspect approached them and fired at them from a handgun.

OPD Case 96-02167 - The murder of J. Bert Deck

In January 1996, 33-year old J. Bert Deck was found shot to death on the side of the road, near Nauman Rd. and Highway 1.  Investigators located a crime scene in the 4900 block of Webster Dr.  It is believed that Deck had been in a confrontation with the suspect at the time of this death.  Deck's body was transported away from Webster Dr.

OPD Case 96-00006 - The murder of Jose Silva Onofre

In January 1996, Jesus Onofre and Manuel Encarnacion were celebrating New Year's Eve together at a party.  After midnight they, along with another person, left to to to Encarnation's home to continue the party.  While walking in the area of Durley Park, 800 West Hill St., the three were confronted by a male robber.  The robbery shot and killed Onofre and Encarnacion during the course of the robbery.  The suspect fled on foot.

OPD Case 96-00006 - The murder of Manuel Encarnacion

OPD Case 95-24949 - The murder of Pedro Madueno

In October 1995, Pedro Madueno and Hector Ponce were standing outside Ponce’s house when they were approached by a small group of individuals. One of these individuals proceeded to shoot both of them, injuring Ponce and killing Madueno.

 Pedro Madueno was 16 years old and attended Channel Islands High School.

OPD Case 95-23972 - The murder of Sergio Sanchez

In September 1995, 25-year old Sergio Sanchez was talking with some friends in an alley in the 400 block of N. Anita Av. when a car pulled up and parked around the corner. The occupants got out of their car and approached Sanchez and his friends. The occupants of the car then fatally shot Sanchez in the head and injured one of his friends by shooting him in the foot.

OPD Case 95-23837 - The murder of Martin Banuelos

In September 1995, 16-year old Martin Banuelos went over to a friend’s house on Kennedy Pl. While outside the residence, witnesses saw  Banuelos talking with a group of three or four males in a car that had pulled up. Banuelos then went inside the house to meet his friends when another car pulled up and the males inside yelled for him to come back. When Banuelos came back outside, witnesses heard six shots being fired and found Banuelos lying in front of the house suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.

Banuelos went to Channel Islands High School and was in the 11th grade. He liked to listen to music and hoped to one day become a mechanic.

OPD Case 95-04765 - The murder of Jose Luis Gutierrez

In February 1995, the police received a call of shots fired from N. Roosevelt Avenue and when they arrived on scene, they discovered the body of 35-year old Jose Luis Gutierrez, AKA Reynaldo “Reyna” Sandoval, lying on the sidewalk in front of his house. Sandoval suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest. 

 Gutierrez was a known transgender and had lived in La Colonia for a long time. People that knew him said that he was friendly and a good person.

OPD Case 95-02540 - The murder of Manuel Martinez

In February 1995, 33-year old Manuel Martinez was in his carport, moving furniture from his van into his new apartment on Cuesta Del Mar, when two rival gangs approached each other in the alley. The two gangs got into a gunfight and Martinez, an innocent bystander, was hit by one of the bullets, killing him. Another innocent bystander was also struck by one of the bullets, but she only sustained minor injuries.

OPD Case 94-15653- The murder of Rodney McClain

In June 1994, Oxnard Police officers responded to the 1300 block of Commercial Ave. regarding a possible gunshot victim.  The responding officer located 40- year old Rodney McClain laying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.  McClain was a local transient living in the area.  It appeared as if McClain had been fleeing from the suspect when he was shot.  McClain later died from his injuries.

OPD Case 93-27438 - The murder of Robert Cardenas

In November 1993, 30- year old Robert Cardenas was at the El Bohemia Bar, located near Cooper Rd. and Hayes Ave.  Cardenas became involved in a fist fight with another patron.  This fight was stopped by security guards.  After the bar closed, Cardenas and others left, as did the other people involved in the fight.  While outside the bar the same parties had an altercation, which escalated into a large brawl.  During the brawl, Cardenas was shot and killed.

OPD Case 93-27213 - The murder of Thurman Jackson

In November 1993, Thurman Lamar Jackson was shot and killed inside an apartment in the 200 block of Cuesta Del Mar. Jackson was living there with his girlfriend. Witnesses in the area heard yelling and gunshots.  Thurman's mother, Alice, continues to be an advocate for her son.  She described him as a family man, who enjoyed sports and break dancing.  He was a life-long lover of automobiles.  At 16 years old, Thurman purchased his first car by saving up his money from his job at a neighborhood gas station.  Thurman graduated from Hueneme High School in 1991.  At the time of his death Jackson had three infant children. The Jackson family continues to maintain contact with detectives and hopes one day to know the truth about what happened to him.

OPD Case 93-22154 - The murder of Ruben Hernandez

In September 1993, 21- year old Ruben Hernandez found suffering from a gunshot wound at the Liquor Cellar store in the 100 block of West Channel Islands Blvd.  Witnesses stated that Hernandez was walking near a gold colored car when he was shot.  Ruben was transported to the hospital for treatment, but he he later died.

OPD Case 93-21627 - The murder of Miguel Ortiz

In September 1993, 24- year old Miguel Ortiz and some friends attended a birthday party.  During the party Ortiz was involved in a fight.  Ortiz was asked to leave the party, which he did.  After leaving the party, Ortiz walked down the street, but was followed by the other fight participants.  An additional fight began, where Ortiz took the upper hand and was on top of the suspect.  Ortiz was pulled off of the other man, ending the fight.  Ortiz found that he had been stabbed and he later died from his injuries.

OPD Case 93-20414- The murder of Sidney Jones

In August 1993, Oxnard Police officers responded to the 100 block of Eliza Ct. regarding a shooting.  Officers located several victims, including Sidney Jones.  The victims were transported to the hospital.  Jones died several days later.  Investigators learned that earlier that evening Joe Jones, a relative of Sidney's, had purchased alcohol from the Stop-N-Go market, located on Rose Ave. and First St.  Several subjects approached Joe and assulted him, likely in an attempted robbery.  Other members of the Jones family saw this assault and came to Joe's aid.  One suspect fired a handgun, striking Felton Jones.  The suspects fled, but drove by the Jones residence on Eliza Ct.  While driving by, the suspects fired shots at the residence, striking Sidney Jones.

OPD Case 93-14611 - The murder of Hilario Corpuz

In June 1993, 45- year old Hilario Corpuz was working as a security guard for a new housing tract.  Corpuz was found in teh 1400 block of Panal St. suffering from a heart attack.  Corpuz was taken to the hospital, where he later died.  Investigators learned that just prior to his heart attack, Corpuz had been in an altercation with a burgler/tresspasser at the housing tract.  The autopsy revealed that Corpuz had significant injuries to his face, which caused his death.

OPD Case 93-0983 - The murder of Jesus Manriquez

In April 1993, Oxnard Police officers responded to the north alley of the 500 block Cuesta del Mar reference a shooting victim.  Officers located 22- year old Jesus Manriquez had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.  Manriquez was transported to the hospital, where he later died.  The investigation revealed that Jesus had been involved in an argument prior to his death.

OPD Case 92-29939 - The murder of Vicente Montanez

In December 1992, 21- year old Vicente Montanez was located an an alley in the 100 block of N. Hayes Ave.  Montanez had suffered a gunshot wound.  Detectives determined that Montanez had been shot on Hayes Ave. and had walked into the alley.  Montanez was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

OPD Case 92-29449 - The murder of Rosendo Obiedor Vargas

OPD Case 92-29006 - The murder of Victor Daniel Miramontes

In November 1992, 36-year old Victor Daniel Miramontes, who also went by Danny, was picked up by his girlfriend, Diane Majeno, and driven to Diane’s mom’s house on Sarita Drive where she had also been staying. They sat out on the porch of the house for awhile until Diane went inside. While Diane was in the house, she heard someone call for her to come outside because Victor was hurt. Diane found Victor laying on the grass with injuries to his face and took him to the hospital. When they got there though, Victor refused to go inside stating that he was fine. Later back at Diane’s mother’s house, Victor stopped breathing so she called an ambulance to transport Victor to the hospital where he later died as a result of traumatic head injuries.

OPD Case 92-25647 - The murder of Osiel Ponce

In October 1992, 37-year old Osiel Ponce was shot and killed while seated in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle.  The vehicle was parked in the area of Durley Park (Hill St. and S. G St.).  Based on the investigation, it appeared as if Ponce knew the identity of his attacker.

OPD Case 92-07056 - The murder of Pedro Gomez

In March 1992, Oxnard Police officers responded to a call of a shooting victim down in the 300 block of N. Hayes Ave.  Officers located Pedro "Flipper" Gomez laying on his back in the driveway of a residence.  Gomez had been shot.  Gomez was declared deceased at the scene.

OPD Case 92-00639 - The murder of Francisco Cortez-Ortega

In January 1992, Oxnard Police officers responded to a report of subjects fighting in the 200 block of W. Elm St.  While en route to the call they were further advised there was a stabbing victim.  Officers contacted subjects upon their arrival and were directed to 29 year-old Francisco Cortez-Ortega, who was seated on a couch inside a residence on W. Elm St.  He had no pulse and was not breathing when located.  He had been bleeding heavily from a stab wound in his chest.  Cortez-Ortega died at the scene.

OPD  Case 91-27142 - The murder of Victor Leanos

In November 1991, the Oxnard Police Department was advised that a shooting victim had been located in the parking lot of the Pancho Villa bar, located in the 200 block of W. Hueneme Rd.  Officers responded to that location and found 37-year old Victor Leanos laying in the parking lot.   Leanos was transported to the hospital, where he died.  During the investigation it was revealed that Leanos was relaed to the bar's owner and he often worked at the bar.

OPD  Case 91-24892 - The murder of Julian Perez

In October 1991, 24-year old Julian Perez was driving west on Cooper Rd. in a red Ford Thunderbird.  Perez had a passenger inside his vehicle.  When Perez approached the intersection of Cooper Rd. and Hayes Ave. and unknown suspect fired several shots at the vehicle.  Perez was struck by the gunfire and died.

OPD  Case 91-15141 - The murder of Emiliano Michel

In June 1991, 17-year old Emiliano Michel was struck by a vehicle as he crossed Bernarda Ct. westbound at E. First St.  Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a black pick-up truck.  Witnesses said that there may have been an altercation between Michel and the driver of the truck prior to the collision.

OPD  Case 90-28303 - The murder of Frank Rojas

In December 1990, 66-year old Frank Rojas' body was found in the ocean, 3/4 of a mile south of Bates Rd., west of Highway 101.  Rojas had last been seen by his family approximately one week prior after taking food to his grandsons.  The following day he was reported missing to police.  Several day after he was reported missing, his body was located.

OPD  Case 90-06146 - The murder of Rufino Ducler

In March 1990, Oxnard Police officers responded to the area of E. First St. and Rose Ave. regarding a call of a shooting.  Officers located a shooting victim, 46-year old Rufino Ducler.  Ducler was alive for a short time, but succumbed to his injuries.  Witnesses stated that the shots may have come from a tan four-door sedan, which had been seen in the area.

In August 1989, 19-year old John Anthony Ramirez's body was located on the side of a residence in the 700 block of W. Kamala St.  It appeared that Ramirez had been severely assaulted.  Earlier that day, Ramirez had been seen with some of his friends in an older model red vehicle.

OPD Case 89-18188 - The murder of Ernesto Cazares

 In August 1989, the body of Ernesto Cazares was discovered lying in the intersection of East Channel Islands Boulevard and Cloyne Street.  An autopsy revealed that Ernesto died of a blow to the head.

 Ernesto was a seaman on the ship, the Isla Isabela.  Cazarez was born in Ecuador.

OPD  Case 88-15641 - The murder of Pamela Jones

In July 1988, an employee at the Southern California Edison power plant in the 300 block of N. Harbor Blvd. discovered the body of a nude female.  The female was identified as 27-year old Pamela Jones.  Jones was from the San Fernando Valley area and according to family, had no ties to Oxnard.

 In May 1988, 45-year old Luis Aguilar Marron was at the Hideaway Bar on Mercantile Street when he got into an argument with a fellow patron. The men took the argument outside where a witness saw the man shoot Luis several times.

In February 1987, 22-year old Fernando Yanez was shot and killed near the rear entrance to El Fiesta Bar, located on Oxnard Blvd.  Just prior to the shooting, there had been an altercation inside of the bar.  Yanez was shot by someone with the nick name of "Rafa".

OPD  Case 86-00609 - The murder of David Rios

In January 1986, Oxnard Police officers responded to the 500 block of N. Roosevelt Ave. regarding a "shots fired" call for service.  The officers did not locate any involved parties.  A short time later two shooting victims arrived at the hospital.  31-year old David Rios was uncooperative with officers and would not tell them about the shooting.  The second victim was also uncooperative.  Rios died as a result of his injuries.

OPD Case 85-05783 - The murder of William Lucas

In April 1985, Police officers responded to a stabbing victim in the 100 block of Amelia Court. Officers located the victim, 77-year old William Milton Lucas deceased inside his residence.   Lucas had a prosthetic leg and other medical issues.

In November 1984, 50-year old David McPherson entered the Drive Shaft Bar, located in the 200 block of W. Hueneme Rd.  McPherson approached the bar and collapsed.  McPherson had been the victim of a stabbing.  McPherson died of his injuries.

OPD Case 84-19404 - The murder of Jose Zapien Gonzales

In March 1984, 32-year old Jose Zapien Gonzales' body was found near the area of Pleasant Valley Road and Wolfe Road by Ventura County Sheriff's Deputies.  Detectives determined that Gonzales had been at a local Oxnard bar just prior to this death, and that he may have been involved in a fist fight prior to his death.

In August 1984, Oxnard Police officers located two stabbing victims in the 700 block of S. Oxnard Blvd. in the alley.  One of the victims was 22-year old Carlos Cisneros.  Cisneros was uncooperative with officers about how he was stabbed, but said that "Toledo" did it.

OPD Case 84-06130 - The murder of Jose Luis Valenzuela

In April 1984, 20-year old Jose Luis Valenzuela was found by a railroad conductor laying by the railroad tracks in the 200 block of East Fifth Street. Valenzuela had been beaten to death. Information showed that Valenzuela was traveling through Oxnard by train and was headed to Central California.

OPD  Case 84-05052 - The murder of Porfirio Castillo

In March 1984, witnesses saw an altercation in the 600 block of S. Oxnard Blvd.  During the fight, several gunshots were heard.    37-year old Porfirio Castillo had been shot and tried to drive himself to the hospital.  Unfortunately he crashed prior to arriving there.  Castillo succumbed to his injuries and died.

In January 1982, 27-year old Jorge Melendez was found behind Buddy Burger, located at Sixth St. and Oxnard Blvd.  Melendez had suffered a stab wound and died.  Witnesses stated that Melendez had been at the City Center Motel just prior to him being stabbed.

OPD  Case 81-18034 - The murder of Ramiro Lopez

In October 1981, Oxnard Police officers in the area of C St. and Wolff St. heard gunshots.  The officers began to check the area for the source of the shots and any victims.  They located 18-year old Ramiro Lopez in a driveway in the 100 block of Wolff St.  Lopez had been shot.  This shooting appeared to be connected to a series of assaults from that night.

OPD  Case 81-14846 - The murder of Nazario Diaz

In September 1981, 28-year old Narario Diaz was found stabbed in the south alley of the 1100 block of West Hemlock St.  Diaz died as a result of his wounds.  Detectives learned that he frequented the bars located in downtown Oxnard.  The evening prior to his death, Diaz had borrowed a friend's car.  That car was found abandoned a few days after Diaz's murder.

OPD  Case 81-12616 - The murder of Jesus Herrera

In July 1981, the body of 21-year old Jesus Herrera was found by a passerby in the east alley of the 700 block of South Oxnard Blvd.  Herrera had suffered a stab wound and had died.  It appeared as if his body was dumped at this location after his death.  Witnesses stated that the previous evening Herrera had been seen at several of the local bars on South Oxnard Blvd.  He had been attending a friend's birthday.

OPD  Case 81-07829 - The murder of Gregory Masson

In May 1981, the body of 28-year old Gregory Masson was found in Room #7 of the Lemon Tree Motel, in the 500 block of Meta St.   Detectives learned that Masson had been shot and killed while inside of the motel room.  Witnesses reported hearing gunshots earlier that morning.

OPD Case 80-15631 - The murder of Frank Pena Jr.

In August 1980, 14-year old Frank Pena Jr. was walking home from his girlfriend's house on Aleric St. when he was attacked and stabbed.  Pena was conscious when officers first found him, but he later died from his injuries.  This was likely a gang involved murder.

OPD Case 80-16296 - The murder of William Jones

In August 1980, 95-year old William Jones walked out of the bus depot on South A St. when he was robbed by three suspects.  One suspect punched Jones in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.  The suspects removed cash from his person.  The suspects fled and left Jones on the street.  Jones was found by a taxi driver and taken to the hospital.  Jones suffered serious head injuries, which caused his death.

OPD  Case 80-10527 - The murder of Fameka Myers aka: Kimberly Brown

In June 1980, Oxnard Police officers responded to a call of a stabbing victim at the Plaza Marina Motel.  Officers located 19-year old Fameka Myers bleeding in one of the motel rooms.  Myers died from her wounds.  Witnesses described hearing an argument from inside the motel room and then seeing a Hispanic male the room.  This male had blood on his clothing and was in possession of a knife.  A composite sketch of the suspect was obtained from witnesses.

OPD  Case 80-1261 - The murder of Jose Rodriguez Lopez

In January 1980, Oxnard Police officers responded to a man down call.  They located 59-year old Jose Rodriguez Lopez's body in the 300 block of N. Harrison Ave.  Lopez had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced deceased.  Witnesses described hearing an argument earlier in the evening in a nearby alley.

OPD Case 79-21869 - The murder of Cecilia Hinahon Gozar

 In December 1979, 28-year old Cecilia Hinahon Gozar’s body was discovered by her husband, Nick Gozar, in their residence in the 1000 block of Saratoga Street.  She was found on the couple’s bed with a severe head injury.  At the time of her death, Cecilia had two young daughters.

In May 1979, 19-year old Steven Acosta and his girlfriend were seated in a car, which was parked in the 3300 block of Fournier St.  A blue mid-70's Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme drove up to them.  The driver of this car was identified by a witness as "Mario".  A passenger in this vehicle shot Acosta with a handgun.  Acosta was transported in a private vehicle to the  Arco Gas station, located at Yucca St. and Saviers Rd.  Acosta was transported to the hospital, where he later died.   Two suspects were later arrested in this case, but were found not guilty.

OPD Case 79-07596 - The murder of Claudia Backus

In April 1979, the body of 83-year old Claudia Backus was discovered in her home on San Simeon Avenue. Her daughter, Willine Riley, had been trying to reach her mother via telephone and upon several unanswered calls, she and her sister, Hope Marquardt, went to their mother’s house where they discovered her body. When police arrived, they determined that Claudia had been stabbed and also noted that portions of her house had been ransacked.  

Claudia was a widow and lived alone. She had a love of birds and raised cockatiels in her backyard. In the weeks leading up  to her death, Claudia had been a victim of grand theft when sixteen birds were stolen from her backyard.

OPD Case 79-02732 - The murder of Timothy George Gitchel

 In February 1979, 18-year old Timothy George Gitchel attended Mann’s Theater with his older brother and friends to see a showing of “The Warriors.” Before the movie began, Timothy’s friend, Alan Granstrom, was harassed and beaten by a group of boys their age demanding money. Upon hearing this, Timothy and his friends demanded to know who had hurt Alan. The group that had beat him up met Timothy and his friends outside the entrance to the theater where a fight ensued. This fight ultimately led to the stabbing of Timothy Gitchel, Daniel Gitchel, and Alan Granstrom. Daniel and Alan were treated and released at the hospital, but Timothy was pronounced dead upon arrival, suffering from a stab wound to the heart.

 Timothy was born in Buffalo New York and had lived in Ventura since he was four years old. He graduated from Buena Park High School the year prior to his death and was an honor student. He worked for his stepfather at a construction company and was also a counselor at the YMCA. He enjoyed baseball, swimming, and fishing in his free time.

OPD  Case 78-21025 - The murder of Ruben Cortez

In November 1978, Oxnard Police officers responded to a shooting victim in the 300 block of Cooper Road.  44-year old Ruben Cortez was located by officers.  He had been shot, but was conscious.  Cortez later died from his wounds.

OPD  Case 78-18911 - The murder of Angel Hernandez

In October 1978, Oxnard Police officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim in the alley of the 500 block of S. Oxnard Blvd.  Officers located Angel Hernandez and found that he had suffered a gunshot wound.  It appeared as if Hernandez was shot during a robbery.

OPD  Case 78-08292 - The murder of Carlos Chavoya

In May 1978, 31-year old Carlos Chavoya and his friend were both shot in the 100 block of East Seventh St. at the Nopalito Cafe.  Chavoya died as a result of his injuries and the friend survived his injuries.   The surviving victim identified the shooter by the nickname of "Pajaro".  "Pajaro" was in the company of "Golondrino"  and Antonio Carrillo when the shooting occurred.  Detectives tentatively identified "Pajaro" as Mario Ceja, but that name may have been an alias, due to the fact that "Pajaro" had been in the United States illegally.  "Pajaro" fled Oxnard for Los Angeles after the shooting.

OPD  Case 78-07810 - The murder of Joseph Abitia

In April 1978, 25-year old Joseph Abitia was shot and killed during daylight hours at Beck Park.

Mr. Abita's daughter recently wrote to me and said, "In the middle of the day while playing at Beck park, my dad was gunned down right before my eyes.  In an instant fear and horror replaced the joy, happiness, love, security, trust and safety that I had in the moments before.  In that one moment my childhood was stolen from me and my life was forever changed.  42 years later I am still working every single day to heal from the trauma that was caused that day.  If anyone knows anything about what happened in the park on April 1978, please have it in your heart to come forward. Thank you."

OPD  Case 76-15865 - The murder of Cesar Sobernaes

In September 1976, victim Cesar Sobernaes is in the area of Sixth St. and Meta St. when he becomes the target of a street robbery.  Witnesses recall an argument between Sobernaes and the suspects.  The argument turns physical and Sobernaes is stabbed.  The suspects fled the scene.  Street robberies in this area were very common during this time period.

OPD  Case 76-12613 - The murder of Archie Sandoval

In August 1976, Oxnard Police officers responded to a large fight at Colonia Park.  While officers were en route, the officers were notified that a shooting had occurred during the fight.  Officers located a stabbing victim at the park, 23-year old Abram Beavers.  Officers learned that a gunshot victim, 25-year old Archie Sandoval, had been transported to the hospital in a private vehicle.  Both Beavers and Sandavol died as a result of their injuries.  Witnesses described how both Beavers and Sandavol had been involved in the fight at the park.

In August 1976, Oxnard Police officers responded to a large fight at Colonia Park.  While officers were en route, the officers were notified that a shooting had occurred during the fight.  Officers located a stabbing victim at the park, 23-year old Abram Beavers.  Officers learned that a gunshot victim, 25-year old Archie Sandoval, had been transported to the hospital in a private vehicle.  Both Beavers and Sandavol died as a result of their injuries.  Witnesses described how both Beavers and Sandavol had been involved in the fight at the park.

OPD  Case 76-09192 - The murder of Daniel Molina Martinez

In June 1976, Oxnard Police officers responded to a stabbing victim in the 1200 block of Felicia Ct.  They located the victim, 29-year old Daniel Martinez on the sidewalk, bleeding from a stab wound.  Martinez was transported to the hospital but died as a result of his injuries.

OPD  Case 72-03720 - The murder of Herbert Hollingsworth

In March 1972, a fight occurred near the Lemon Tree motel, in the 500 block of Meta St., involving a group of males.  During this fight, the victim Herbert Hollingsworth was stabbed.  Hollingsworth was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

OPD Case 71-16184 - The murder of Richard Candelaria

In December 1971, 32-year old Richard Candelaria was shot in the area of Mama Cecil's Drive-In, located at Cooper Road and Grant Avenue. While in the parking lot of the drive-in, Candelaria  became involved in a dispute with another male.  A third male shot Candelaria, ultimately killing him.

OPD Case 66-10128 - The murder of Miguel Rodriguez

In November 1966, 42-year old Miguel Rodriguez, a local business owner, was shot and killed in the 700 block of South Oxnard Boulevard. Rodriguez and his employee had closed up his business for the night and were walking to his car when they was confronted by two individuals. One of the individuals pointed a handgun at Rodriguez and demanded money. Rodriguez claimed he had no money. The witness fled the scene, but heard two gunshots. Rodriguez was found by passersby laying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.
