DETAILS:
On Saturday, November 24, 2018, at about 11:15 a.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Haaz Way in Oxnard reference a man who was threatening to harm his 88-year-old grandmother. Officers were told the man was Mark Quintana, a 42-year-old Oxnard resident. The grandmother was evacuated from the residence unharmed. Quintana retreated into the house when officers attempted to contact him regarding the incident. He was uncooperative, and detectives from the Oxnard Police Department Family Protection Unit authored a warrant for his arrest related to this incident and a prior incident from earlier in the week.
When officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit returned to the residence to arrest Quintana for the warrant, he barricaded himself in the house for nearly two hours. The standoff ended when Quintana surrendered to officers by coming out of the house. A knife was later found inside the Quintana’s bedroom.
Quintana was arrested after the standoff for dissuading a victim from contacting police, brandishing a deadly weapon, making criminal threats and elder abuse.
This was the second time in three days police had been called to the residence. On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, officers were called to the house at about 12:30 p.m. when Quintana threatened his mother and grandmother with a knife. Police were able de-escalate the situation and assist the family by getting them out of the house unharmed without the situation becoming more volatile.
