Update (Refer to original collision information below):
On November 8, 2016, the driver involved in the serious injury traffic collision, identified as Sonny Ramos, was treated at the Ventura County Reginal Medical Center for injuries sustained during the collision.
Based on the investigation, it was determined that, at the time of the collision, Ramos was driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was driving with a suspended license. As a result, Ramos was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while causing bodily injury to another person (23153 (a)(b) CVC), and driving while his license was suspended or revoked (14601.2 CVC). The suspension was from a prior DUI. Ramos was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail with a bail of $250,000.
Two of the children injured during the collision are still admitted in the hospital. The 2-year-old child is listed in stable condition and the 8-year-old child is listed in critical condition. The 15-year-old child was treated for minor injuries and release from the hospital on November 7, 2016.

On November 7, 2016, at about 4:26 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the area of Gisler Avenue and Elm Street regarding a serious injury traffic collision in which a vehicle collided into an apartment located at the California Garden Apartments, 1644 Gisler Avenue. Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver, identified as Sonny Ramos, was traveling eastbound on Elm Street and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Elm Street and Gisler Avenue. Ramos continued eastbound through the intersection and drove off the roadway colliding into the apartment injuring three children, ages 2, 8, and 15.
Fire personnel had to use rescue tools to remove Ramos from the vehicle and rescue the children from the apartment. Ramos and the three children were transported to local area hospitals for injuries ranging from minor to critical. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and whether alcohol and/or drugs was involved.
