DETAILS:
A total of twenty-five DUI arrests were made over the weekend from July 30th to August 1st by the Oxnard Police Department, which deployed additional officers to conduct strict DUI enforcement throughout the city. Three of the arrests were made on Friday night at the Traffic Unit’s DUI checkpoint.
Several additional officers were deployed this weekend to conduct strict DUI enforcement throughout the city. The combined effort of these officers and patrol beat officers resulted in 22 additional drivers arrested for DUI.
Among the drivers arrested, two were charged with felony violations of DUI. Both of them were already on probation for DUI and driving with suspended drivers’ licenses. One of them had been arrested three prior times for DUI since 2000, had an opened container of alcohol in his vehicle, and had a blood alcohol level that was over twice the legal limit of .08. The other driver had four prior DUI arrests.
An additional driver this weekend was arrested for his second DUI and also on DUI probation with court restrictions.
The average blood alcohol level of all the drivers this weekend was .15.
The number of DUI arrests made this weekend was over double the amount of arrests normally made on a weekend in the City of Oxnard.
The Oxnard Police Department is planning several additional DUI checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols in 2010. All of these DUI operations are an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. They are also funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration. We want to remind the public to call 911 to report drunk drivers.
Please buckle up, drive sober, and drive safely!
