Press release - Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision

On Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at approximately 0443 hours, officers from the Oxnard Police Department along with EMS personnel responded to an injury collision in the 1100 block of West Hemlock Street. When officers arrived, they discovered that three vehicles were involved in the crash. One of the vehicles involved, a Plymouth Voyager van, had rolled over and had come to rest on its passenger side. The driver of the van fled the scene on foot leaving an injured female passenger, Dolores Galiney, trapped inside of the vehicle. Galiney was removed from the vehicle by EMS and transported to St John’s Hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Galiney later succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the van was traveling eastbound on Hemlock Street at an unknown speed and veered left into oncoming traffic after crossing M Street. The van continued across the westbound lane and collided into two parked vehicles along the north curb line. The force of the collision caused the van to overturn.
