OXNARD POLICE DEPARTMENT

PRESS RELEASE

 

On October 31st, 2009, between the hours of 8:00 P.M. and 3:00 A.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a DUI saturation patrol. Officers patrolled the City of Oxnard with an emphasis on locating impaired drivers.

 

During the operation, officers conducted several traffic stops and arrested a total of 10 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol. Of the 10 drivers arrested, one had an outstanding warrant for a prior DUI arrest. Officers also issued 15 traffic citations for various vehicle code violations.

 

DUI enforcement operations were carried out throughout the Halloween weekend due to the usual increase in alcohol-related activities associated with Halloween festivities. On Friday, officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a two-location, sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint which netted three (3) DUI drivers.  

 

Prior to the weekend’s operations, the Oxnard Police Department flooded the media with information regarding the upcoming DUI operations with the intent to deter motorists from getting in their cars and driving after drinking. The goal: to prevent fatal and injury, alcohol-related vehicle crashes.

 

On Halloween there were no reported DUI-related, fatal or injury crashes in the City of Oxnard.

 

The Oxnard Police Department will continue conducting sobriety checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols in an effort to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes and to make our community and roadways safer. These operations are funded through grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) though the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
